A WCU delegation’s recent trip to Asia included the signing of exchange agreements with two universities in China and the presentation of an honorary doctorate to WCU Chancellor David O. Belcher by a South Korean university.
A task force that spent the 2012-13 academic year conducting a comprehensive study of WCU’s academic programs to assess their quality, productivity and connections to the university’s mission and strategic directions released its recommendations Wednesday, May 22.

A $10,000 contribution from Robbinsville native Elaine Howell, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, will provide scholarship assistance to students from the far western counties of North Carolina majoring in music, fine arts or industrial arts at Western Carolina University.
WCU will receive a five-year Investment Award totaling $642,960 from the Economic Development Administration of the federal government to continue operation of the EDA University Center for Rapid Product Realization.
