David Dorondo, associate professor in Western Carolina University’s Department of History, has been honored with an American Legion Distinguished Service Award, presented recently by the Steve Youngdeer Post 143 of Cherokee.
With her research interests centering on Vikings, the medieval North Atlantic, marine mammal exploitation and environmental history, Western Carolina University Department of History associate professor Vicki Szabo is familiar with the early travels of Norwegians who ventured out to Scotland, Iceland, Greenland and eventually North America from around 800 to 1500.
Monday, Aug. 17, brought more than the start of a new academic year. It also brought news that WCU had lost an important leader who served at critical periods of the institution’s history. The night before, Clifford Ramsey Lovin lost his fight with cancer.
