Western Carolina University has maintained its status as one of the top universities in the South in two categories in the 2017 edition of the U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges” guidebook released Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Special Collections at Western Carolina University’s Hunter Library recently received a gift of a Cherokee language version of E.B. White’s classic children’s book “Charlotte’s Web.” In turn, WCU presented the New Kituwah Academy, a Cherokee immersion school, with card games for learning Cherokee pronouns and a Cherokee language board game, created by graphic design students and produced by the university’s print shop.
David A. Shapiro, the Robert Lee Madison Distinguished Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Western Carolina University, was honored Friday, May 27, by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors with the 2016 Oliver Max Gardner Award, the highest honor the board presents to faculty of the 17-campus system.
Ericka Zimmerman, director of Western Carolina University’s School of Health Sciences and associate professor of athletic training, is being honored for her service to the national board responsible for the certification of athletic trainers.
