McRae’s book earns award from Southern Historical Association

Elizabeth Gillespie McRae, WCU associate professor of history, has been announced as the 2019 recipient of the Frank L. and Harriet C. Owsley Award, which is presented by the Southern Historical Association.

McRae is receiving the honor for her book, “Mothers of Massive Resistance: White Women and the Politics of White Supremacy,” which was published by Oxford University Press.

The award recognizes the author of the “best book of Southern history” published the previous year. It will be presented at the association’s annual meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, in November.
