Western Carolina University’s Office of Professional Growth and Enrichment is offering a workshop for nonprofit professionals and volunteer board members from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, at WCU’s instructional site at Biltmore Park in Asheville.
The workshop, “Partnering for Impact: What Nonprofit Boards Need to Know About Working with Each Other,” is open to both board members and senior professionals.
Hal Lewis of Leadership for Impact LLC, an Asheville-based leadership consulting firm, will serve as instructor and discuss the key elements that enable volunteer and professional leaders to partner in order to maximize the impact of their not-for-profit organizations.
“To be successful, a nonprofit organization requires a meaningful partnership between its volunteer board members and its executive staff,” said Lewis. “When the relationship is healthy, magic happens – if not, disaster ensues. It is a bit like marriage counseling. You cannot maximize the relationship if you only counsel half of the couple.”
The session will combine case studies, peer learning and interactive exchanges designed to help both executives and board members navigate the often-challenging waters of their work.
Cost of the workshop is $99. A 20 percent discount will be provided for organizations that register both a board member and an executive director. That option will be available during registration.
