Catamount School holding information sessions for parents

The Catamount School, a collaborative effort of Western Carolina University and Jackson County Public Schools, is holding information sessions for parents as enrollment begins for the 2018-19 school year.

All Jackson County students in sixth through eighth grades are eligible to apply to enroll in the Catamount School.

The first session was held Tuesday, April 10. The second session is scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, at 6 p.m. in Room 24 of the Catamount School, located on the campus of Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva.

The innovative laboratory school for up to 75 students in sixth through eighth grades opened in August 2017. It is designed to help enrolled students transition into high school through implementation of a “whole school, whole community, whole child” approach. The school’s principal and its teachers are employees of WCU, while the public school system provides transportation and lunch for students.
