Gordon, Moore honored as members of All-SoCon faculty, staff team

WCU’s representatives on the All-Southern Conference Faculty and Staff Team are recognized during the Catamount men’s Feb. 15 game against Wofford. Congratulating the two honorees, (from right) Beth Moore and Winford “Windy” Gordon, are John Iamarino, commissioner of the Southern Conference; Randy Eaton, director of athletics at WCU; and Alison Morrison-Shetlar, acting chancellor of WCU.

Western Carolina University’s Winford “Windy” Gordon and Beth Moore were honored during a recent home basketball game for their selection as WCU’s representatives on the All-Southern Conference Faculty and Staff Team.

Two representatives from each of the 10 SoCon schools have been named to the team. While the selections were left up to each institution’s discretion, the recipients all share the common characteristics of demonstrated service to their institution and contributions to campus life and the local community, league officials said.

Gordon, associate professor of psychology, teaches and serves as director of undergraduate studies in psychology at WCU. He earned his doctorate in experimental psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has been teaching at WCU since 2004. An accomplished whitewater canoe racer, Gordon earned a spot on the U.S. national team three times and won numerous medals in national championships over almost two decades of competition.

Moore, a WCU alumna with a bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management, serves as administrative support associate in WCU’s School of Art and Design. Prior to that role, she held administrative positions in the Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness and the dean’s office of the College of Fine and Performing Arts. Her 14 years at WCU also have included positions with the Center for Math and Science Pre-College Program, Upward Bound Math and Science, and Educational Talent Search.
