Animated film ‘Liyana’ to be shown in UC theater Feb. 13 as part of Southern Film Circuit

The 2017-18 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers will make a stop in Cullowhee Tuesday, Feb. 13, with the showing of “Liyana” at 7 p.m. in Western Carolina University’s A.K. Hinds University Center theater.

The tour is presented by South Arts, a regional arts organization that serves nine southeastern states. Filmmakers on the Southern Circuit are from all over the United States.

“Liyana” is an animated film by Amanda and Aaron Kopp featuring a Swazi girl who embarks on a dangerous quest to rescue her young twin brothers. It is an African tale born in the imaginations of five orphaned children in Swaziland who collaborate to tell a story of perseverance drawn from their darkest memories and brightest dreams.

The showing is free and open to the public.
