Livingston’s retirement begins with state’s highest civilian honor

Don Livingston holds the proclamation that adds him to The Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Don Livingston, a professor in WCU’s Department of Political Science and Public Affairs, wrapped up his 33 years on the WCU faculty in December by receiving The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the state of North Carolina’s highest civilian honor.

Livingston’s last day in the classroom before his retirement was Dec. 15. That same day, he received word that he had been inducted into the order by Gov. Roy Cooper.

Livingston declined having a party to mark his retirement, so instead, colleagues sent cards and made contributions to WCU’s C. Don Livingston Scholarship Fund.
