WCU’s Advancement office sets holiday hours to assist with year-end giving

While most Western Carolina University offices in Cullowhee and Asheville will be closed during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period, WCU’s Advancement office will be open for special hours on two days to assist donors with year-end giving.

Almost all university offices will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, until 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, with the exception of the Advancement unit on the Cullowhee campus. Advancement staffers will be on duty from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Thursday, Dec. 28, and Friday, Dec. 29, to assist potential donors via the office’s primary telephone lines (828-227-7124 and 800-492-8496) and main email address (development@wcu.edu).

The Advancement staff also will be monitoring voice mail on its primary telephone lines throughout the holiday period and will return messages promptly.

Online giving to WCU is available at the website makeagift.wcu.edu. Instructions regarding credit cards, stocks and securities are available at this web page. To receive a 2017 tax receipt, donors should make sure their contributions are postmarked or time-stamped prior to midnight Sunday, Dec. 31.

Staff members in WCU’s Division of Information Technology also will be busy during a portion of the holiday period as they perform maintenance on the campus data center systems. Work is set for 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29. System access will be unavailable or sporadic during those times.

Campus police in Cullowhee will be on duty throughout the holiday period and can be reached at 828-227-8911 during emergencies and 828-227-7301 for non-emergencies.

Spring semester activities will get underway at WCU with orientation for new students Thursday, Jan. 11. Residence halls open Friday, Jan. 12, and classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 16, the day after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
