The Western Carolina University Symphonic Band will present its inaugural concert for the fall semester at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The Symphonic Band is an auditioned group of student musicians from the School of Music who meet during the fall semester. The concert will be conducted by David Starnes, director of athletic bands and assistant professor of music.
The performance also will feature the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet, which is composed of faculty members from the School of Music.
The repertoire for this concert includes “Scarecrow Overture” by Joseph Turrin, “Contre Qui Rose” by Morten Lauridsen, “Suite from Mass” for symphonic band and brass quintet by Leonard Bernstein and “Zing!” by Scott McAllister.
