The academic success of 1,244 Western Carolina University students who were named to the chancellor’s list for spring semester 2017 will be celebrated during the annual Chancellor’s Awards and Reception set for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The chancellor’s list is a designation to honor students who achieve a 3.8 or higher GPA during a semester.
WCU students being recognized include 337 students who graduated following the spring semester.
The event will feature remarks by Chancellor David O. Belcher, Provost Alison Morrison-Shetlar and guest keynote speaker Kwame Jackson. An alumnus of the NBC show “The Apprentice,” Jackson earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. His professional experience includes co-founding several Internet start-ups during his time at Harvard, sales and marketing roles at Proctor & Gamble, and, most recently, a position on Wall Street as an investment manager for Goldman Sachs.
Invited guests for the event will include the high-achieving students, their mentors on campus and the students’ families. The event also is open to the general public.
