University officials monitoring weekend weather forecast

With a chance of wintry precipitation across much of the Southeast this weekend as students return to campus to begin spring semester classes Monday, Jan. 9, Western Carolina University officials are keeping an eye on the skies – and on the highway system.

WCU Director of Emergency Services Shane Stovall, Provost Alison Morrison-Shetlar and others at the university will continue to monitor forecasts from the National Weather Service and other official sources of weather information. If the forecast or conditions warrant any alteration of current plans, including student move-in activities over the weekend and orientation sessions for new students Thursday, Jan. 5, and Friday, Jan. 6, the university will announce those changes on its website

“The safety of all members of our campus community is our top consideration when evaluating weather conditions and making decisions about changes to the university schedule,” Morrison-Shetlar said.
