The Resolution 2016 Concert, featuring rapper Waka Flocka Flame, will have a bit of a Western Carolina University flavor.
Opening the Thursday, Jan. 14, concert at WCU’s Ramsey Regional Activity Center will be recent WCU graduate Dale Urquhart Jr., better known as “Dipsey D,” from Fayetteville, who graduated in December with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert are $5 for students and $10 for non-students if purchased in advance. They will be $15 at the door. The concert is presented by the offices of Campus Activities and Residential Living.
The Student Affairs Concert Committee conducted a poll open to all WCU students, and Waka Flocka Flame drew the highest percentage of votes among artists that were within budget, said Stephanie Sue Rowell, associate director for campus programs.
Waka Flocka Flame is a protege of Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane. His debut album, “Flockaveli,” which was released in October of 2009, peaked at No. 2 on Billboard Magazine’s top 100. His quick rise in popularity saw him collaborate with top hip-hop artists like T.I., Drake and B.o.B.
Also performing will be up-and-coming Atlantic Records rhythm and blues artist PJ.
Tickets can be purchased at the Ramsey Center box office by calling 828-227-7722 or online at ramsey.wcu.edu.
