The WCU gridiron squad’s much-anticipated 2015 campaign gets underway Saturday (Sept. 5) as the Catamounts host their mountain neighbors, the Mars Hill Lions, at 7 p.m. at E.J. Whitmire Stadium.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., and the fifth annual Freshman Run will take place during pregame as WCU’s new students join Chancellor David Belcher in running through the Cat Head tunnel and onto the field. Saturday also will be Military Appreciation Day at the stadium, with all veteran and active members of the armed forces receiving free admission to the game, with tickets for family members at $15 each.
After the game, fireworks will be presented by Ingles, 99.9 Kiss Country and Star 104.3.
More information about the game is available on Catamount Athletics’ Gameday Central.
Football is not the only sport being played in Cullowhee over Labor Day weekend, however. Other events include women’s soccer versus Campbell at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4; the Cross Country Western Carolina Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday; and women’s soccer versus Longwood at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6. Admission is free for both soccer and cross country.
