Lindsay Marie Carter, an alumna of Western Carolina University’s Honors College, has received a prestigious national award to help her finance her graduate studies.
The Apex native was recipient of a $5,000 fellowship from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. The award was one of 51 presented this year to members of the honor society who are beginning graduate or professional study.
Carter graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School and began attending WCU in the fall of 2009 as a student-athlete. She was a member of the Honors College and the WCU soccer team for four years before she graduated summa cum laude (with highest honors) in May with a bachelor’s degree in biology.
Carter is now attending the Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She expects to graduate in 2017 with a doctor of pharmacy degree.
