Couple builds a top school for outdoor responder training

Standing in the snow on a forest road in Cullowhee, WCU alumnus Justin “Padj” Padgett pulls make-up out of his backpack to help set the scene of a mock emergency involving a trail runner and equestrians.

“The horse kicks you in the head, sound good?” Padgett asks Ambrose Sleister III, a student in a “Wilderness First Responder” class.
