Break by the Lake Conference set for Sept. 28

Western Carolina University counseling programs within the Department of Human Services is sponsoring the annual Break by the Lake Conference for student support services personnel at Lake Logan on Friday, Sept. 28.

Presenters from Western North Carolina institutions and organizations will showcase best practices for work with young people.  The main presenter will be Billy Jonas, a singer, songwriter and teacher who will discuss how music can be used to creatively teach, set the tone, inspire and manage the classroom. Breakout sessions will cover topics such as positive behavior intervention support, teaching with puppets, adolescent self-harm and supporting homeless students.

Registration is $35 through Sept. 20, $25 for students and retirees, and $45 on the day of the event.
