Ten students vying for Homecoming king, queen

Five women and five men have been selected for Western Carolina University’s 2012 Homecoming Court.

The court will be presented and the king and queen crowned during halftime activities at WCU’s football game against Georgia Southern University on Saturday, Oct. 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

In addition, court members will participate in the Homecoming parade, which begins in downtown Sylva at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.

Seeking the title of queen:

  • Lauren Chelsey Crawford, a senior from Fletcher majoring in special education, is sponsored by WCU cheerleading. A 2009 graduate of T.C. Roberson High School, Crawford is the daughter of Pam and David Crawford.
  • A’Kasha Alexandria Johnson, a senior from Concord majoring in communication sciences and disorders, is sponsored by Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. A 2009 graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School, Johnson is the daughter of Tara and William Johnson.
  • Alecia Lorann Page, a senior from Earl majoring in English, is sponsored by the Student Government Association. A 2009 graduate of Crest Senior High School, Page is the daughter of Chrystal and John Page.
  • Ashley Lauren Stalnaker, a senior from Union, S.C., majoring in marketing, is sponsored by Alpha Xi Delta sorority. A 2009 graduate of South Forsyth High School in Cummings, Ga., Stalnaker is the daughter of Angie and Mike Stalnaker.
  • Amber Lynn Steinhardt, a senior from Hypoluxo, Fla., majoring in business administration and law, is sponsored by the women’s softball team. A 2009 graduate of Santaluces Community High School, Steinhardt is the daughter of Teri and Richard Steinhardt.

Seeking the title of king:

  • John Eslie Arney IV, a junior from Vale majoring in management, is sponsored by Orientation Programs. A 2010 graduate of Fred T. Foard High School, Arney is the son of Brenda B. and John E. Arney III.
  • Lance Jason Barton, a senior from Burlington majoring in music education, is independently sponsored. A 2006 graduate of Graham High School, Barton is the son of Cathy and Willie Barton.
  • Asa Leland Jordan, a senior from Cary majoring in communication, is sponsored by Sigma Chi fraternity. A 2009 graduate of Green Hope High School, Jordan is the son of Lucius and Vivian Jordan.
  • Caleb Lee Moore, a junior from Flat Rock majoring in criminal justice, is sponsored by Scott Hall. A 2009 graduate from North Henderson High School, Moore is the son of Janet and Sherrill Moore.
  • Dominuqie “Dee” Tyr’e Turner, a senior from Concord majoring in communication, is sponsored by the Leadership Institute. A 2009 graduate of Jay M. Robinson High School, Turner is the son of Tammy Vargas and Alvin Evans.
