Jerry Miller, the Whitmire Distinguished Professor of Environmental Science at Western Carolina University, recently was named to a state science panel.
Miller was appointed to and selected as vice chair of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Science Advisory Panel. The panel was formed to provide input on mitigation and quality of aquatic restoration projects.
Miller is director of WCU’s Institute of Watershed Research and Management. The institute is an interdisciplinary association of faculty and staff from across the university who are devoted to the promotion of sustainable watershed management through research, education and outreach.
He is involved in initiatives ranging from monitoring water quality on the Pigeon River to studying the impact of agricultural runoff, including sedimentation, fertilizers and pesticides, on water quality in South Africa.
