CULLOWHEE – Despite rainy conditions, organizers of Western Carolina University’s Relay for Life (April 8-9) called the annual fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society “a resounding success” with close to $15,000 raised for cancer research. This year’s total exceeded the previous year’s total by $2,000.
Hundreds of participants turned out for the overnight event, including Western fraternities, sororities, clubs and organizations, and non-university affiliated teams.
“It was wonderful. Despite the rain, the teams really kept the event fun and full of spirit. I am just so impressed with how well we have grown over the past few events and hope that next year’s event will be even bigger,” said Tabitha Taylor, president of WCU’s Relay for Life. Taylor, a sophomore, will enter Western’s nursing program in the fall.
