Head of Western’s nursing program wins national research award

CULLOWHEE – Vincent Hall, head of the department of nursing at Western Carolina University, is the recipient of a national award from the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care for a research article he authored.

Hall’s article, “Bearing Witness to Suffering in AIDS: The Testing of a Substantive Story,” was selected as 2004 Outstanding Research Article of the Year in JANAC. The article, which appeared in the July/August 2003 edition of the journal, deals with the topic of how individuals affected by loss from HIV/AIDS cope through AIDS volunteerism.

Hall will receive his award as part of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care annual conference, set for Nov. 15-18 in New Orleans.

ANAC provides leadership to the nursing community in matters related to HIV/AIDS through education, research and networking opportunities. Founded in 1987 to address the specific needs of nurses working in HIV/AIDS care, the association is dedicated to promoting the individual and collective professional development of nurses and others involved in the delivery of health care to persons infected with or affected by HIV and to promoting the health and welfare of infected persons.
