Chancellor announces establishment of Hurricane Relief Fund

CULLOWHEE – Chancellor John W. Bardo announced on Monday, Sept. 13 the establishment of the Hurricane Relief Fund for Western Carolina University Employees and Students.

The university’s Staff Forum took the initiative to establish the fund in order to provide financial assistance to employees and students who incurred damage or loss from flooding or other incidences related to Hurricane Frances.

A fund has been established in the WCU Foundation to receive donations and a steering committee is being formed to manage the gift campaign and to develop criteria for allocating funds.

Donations may take the form of cash or a personal check (made out to the “Hurricane Relief Fund”) and may be submitted to Lila Buchanan in the Office of Development in room 401 of the H.F.R. Administration Building. Donors will receive a tax-deductible receipt.

Over $1500 was contributed to the fund during Western’s Employee Appreciation Day on Tuesday, September 14.
