WCU student, electronic media major, wins two Broadcast Education Awards

CULLOWHEE – A Western Carolina University student is the winner of two awards at the International Broadcast Education Awards Festival of Film, Video and Media Arts Competition.

Will Candler, an electronic media major from Arden, has won first place in the public service announcement/commercial competition for his entry, “System Shutdown,” a humorous, musical promotional announcement. The announcement airs on WWCU-FM, the university’s radio station.

Candler also received third place in the disk jockey competition.

Don Connelly, assistant professor of communications and theatre arts at WCU, will accompany Candler to receive the awards on Saturday, April 6. Rob Weller and Gary Grossman of Weller/ Grossman Productions will present the awards at the BEA/National Association of Broadcasters meting in Las Vegas.

Weller/Grossman Productions has produced television programs for NBC, Animal Planet, Discovery Health, Home and Garden Television, The History Channel and Fine Living.

The BEA is a professional association for professors, industry professionals and graduate students who are interested in teaching and research related to electronic media and multimedia enterprises.
