Coburn joins Duke shoreline program in move to WCU

Andrew Coburn, who has served since 2001 as associate director of the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines, is joining the internationally known coastal research initiative as it moves from Duke University to Western Carolina University. Coburn, who has more than 15 years of experience in interdisciplinary coastal environmental management, joined the Western faculty on Nov. 1. He holds a faculty research position and remains as associate director of the PSDS, which is relocating from Duke to WCU beginning this fall.

WCU shoreline program lands $78,000 to study coastal parks

Less than a month after announcing that the internationally known Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines is moving to Western Carolina University, the new director of the program already has landed a federal grant to study coastal engineering projects in the national park system.

Western’s hurricane expert to appear on PBS program “Now”

Rob Young, associate professor of geosciences at Western Carolina University and nationally known hurricane researcher, will be interviewed on the PBS program “Now,” which will debut nationally Friday, Oct. 21. UNC-TV, which carries PBS programming in North Carolina, will air the show at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23.
