WCU nursing students help elderly couple live out a dream

Betty Plemmons of Asheville had a lifelong dream of riding in a hot air balloon. Thanks to a couple of Western Carolina University students involved with Beyond Clinic Walls, a multidisciplinary group of students working with the elderly, Plemmons and her husband, Glen, managed to realize that dream recently.

Former Catamount Golfer J.T. Poston Earns PGA Tour Card

Based on his performance this year on the Web.com Tour, former Western Carolina men's golfer J.T. Poston has qualified for his PGA Tour Card, it was announced last week. Poston was one of 25 golfers -- 19 of which will be rookies -- to secure their 2016-17 PGA Tour membership.

Authentic lab provides nursing students with realistic hospital experience

Simulation is often used in nursing programs to give students an idea of what actual patient interactions are like in a hospital. It can come in various forms such as human-patient simulations, the use of manikins, virtual simulations, or role playing. Western Carolina University School of Nursing assistant professor David Wells has taken simulation to another level.
