Mountain dulcimer workshop offered at Biltmore Park on Dec. 2

A workshop titled “Christmas with Dulcimer U” will be offered in Asheville on Saturday, Dec. 2, by Western Carolina University’s Office of Professional Growth and Enrichment.

The workshop in playing the mountain dulcimer will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at WCU’s instructional site at Biltmore Park Town Square.

“Christmas with Dulcimer U” will be held at WCU’s instructional site at Biltmore Park Town Square.

The workshop is designed for the advancing beginner/intermediate-level player and the focus will on duets, but it is not mandatory for students to have duet partners to attend. All arrangements taught during the workshop can stand alone as a solo.

Larry and Elaine Conger are co-directors of Dulcimer U and will be workshop instructors. She is a professional music educator and Orff-Schulwerk specialist whose musical experience includes touring with her own country band, performing on the General Jackson Showboat at Opryland in Nashville and touring as pianist and backup vocalist for country music superstar Faith Hill. He has several dulcimer books and recordings to his credit and, in 1998, won the prestigious National Mountain Dulcimer Championship at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas.
