Bobilya co-authors paper on impact of first-year outdoor orientation

Andrew Bobilya, associate professor and director of WCU’s Parks and Recreation Management Program, recently published a paper with colleagues from other universities titled “An Investigation of the Connection Between Outdoor Orientation and Thriving.”

The paper explores the impact of first-year college student participation in an outdoor orientation program at three higher education institutions in the U.S. and Canada. It was published in a recent issue of the Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education and Leadership.

The authors’ study is part of a growing area of first-year student programming in higher education and related scholarship that focuses on the use of outdoor orientation programming to assist in students’ transitions to college and university life.
