Concert, Symphonic bands unite to present spring concert

The Western Carolina University Concert Band and Symphonic Band will take the stage at the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, to perform a spring concert. The event is free and open to the public.

The Concert Band, under the direction of David Starnes, director of the award-winning Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, and Margaret Underwood, director of bands and associate professor of music, will perform “An Irish Rhapsody” by Clare Grundman, “Shenandoah” by Frank Ticheli, “Emperata Overture” by Claude T. Smith and music from the soundtrack of the movie “Beauty and the Beast,” featuring the WCU United Sound Chapter.

The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Starnes, will perform “Mother Earth” by David Maslanka, “Only Light” by Aaron Perrine, “Resplendent Glory” by Rosanno Galante, a medley from “The Sound of Music” and “Fairest of the Fair” by John Philip Sousa.
