WCU Alumni Affairs hosts reception at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort May 12

The Western Carolina University Alumni Association will host a reception on Thursday, May 12, in the Maple Room at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee for WCU alumni and friends.

The speaker will be Brett Riggs, WCU’s Sequoyah Distinguished Professor of Cherokee Studies. Riggs will discuss how the treaties of 1817 and 1819 played out in southwestern North Carolina and shaped the development of the modern Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
