The 2015-16 First Thursday Old-Time and Bluegrass Series at Western Carolina University will conclude Thursday, April 7, with a concert featuring the bluegrass band Buncombe Turnpike.

The band’s 7 p.m. performance in the ground-floor auditorium of H.F. Robinson Administration Building will be followed by an 8 p.m. jam session in which local musicians are invited to participate.

Members of Buncombe Turnpike include founding members Tom Godleski, lead singer and bass player, and Tim Adams, banjo player. They are joined on stage by Darrell Earwood, guitar; David Hyatt, mandolin; and Don Lewis, fiddle. The band released its fifth album, “Forever It Will Be,” in 2013, and its recent video featuring the song “They Passed It Down” has surpassed 48,000 views on the group’s Facebook page.

The events in the First Thursday series are sponsored by WCU’s Mountain Heritage Center and are free and open to the public. Pickers and singers of all ages and experience levels are invited to take part in the jam sessions, which also are open to those who just want to listen.
