Results announced from Foreign Language Contest at WCU

Some 240 high school students from across Western North Carolina and northern Georgia gathered at Western Carolina University’s Ramsey Center on Tuesday, March 17, to test their knowledge of French and Spanish in the university’s 33rd annual Foreign Language Contest.

The competition was sponsored by WCU’s Department of Modern Foreign Languages. Individuals and teams competed in the categories of music, skits, quiz bowl, native speaker Spanish quiz bowl, show-and-tell, poetry recitations, how-to and extemporaneous speaking.

Students and faculty from the modern foreign languages department, along with volunteers from other departments on campus, served as judges.

Participating high schools included Carolina Day, Franklin, Henderson County Early College, North Henderson, Pisgah, Robbinsville, Towns County (Georgia) and Tuscola.

Winning students and schools are:

French music: First, Pisgah; second, Franklin.

Spanish music: First, Tuscola; second, Towns County; third, North Henderson.

French skits: First, North Henderson; second, Franklin.

Spanish skits: First, North Henderson; second, Carolina Day.
