The Summer Concert Series at Western Carolina University will continue Thursday, July 18, with a performance by the bluegrass ensemble The Boxcars on the stage at WCU’s Central Plaza.
The free concert, presented by A.K. Hinds University Center, will begin at 7 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and snacks. In case of rain, the event will be held inside the University Center.
Members of The Boxcars have had a hand in winning numerous Grammy Awards and honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association. The band is the reigning IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year and released its third album, “It’s Just a Road,” in April. Band members are Adam Steffey, mandolin; Ron Stewart, banjo and fiddle; John R. Bowman, vocals, fiddle and banjo; Keith Garrett, lead vocals and guitar; and Harold Nixon, bass.
The University Center is hosting free concerts each Thursday through July. The final show in the series will feature the indie rock band Kovacs and the Polar Bear on July 25.
