Western Carolina University recently launched a Web-based ridesharing board hosted by the private entity RidePost for students, faculty and staff members.
The site, wcu.ridepost.com, is designed to connect drivers and passengers for safe and social ridesharing while reducing the cost of travel and increasing access to transportation.
“We are excited about this new tool for campus,” said Lauren Bishop, WCU energy manager. “It is not only very user friendly, but also provides features and analytical options that will help to quantify how many cars and emissions we are reducing on campus. We selected RidePost because it fills a great need to link riders and drivers in a safe environment at WCU.”
To enhance safety, the site requires WCU participants to register with a WCU-affiliated email address and removes anonymity so that participants know who they are getting in a car with before the trip begins. The tool has features to help connect commuters as well as drivers and passengers for one-time rides, such as going home for breaks or trips to the airport, sporting events or other venues.
