‘The Medium’ to be presented at Haywood theater

Western Carolina University’s School of Music, in collaboration with the Haywood Arts Repertory Theater, will present Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera “The Medium at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7. The performances will be at HART, located at 250 Pigeon St., Waynesville.

“The Medium” is the story of Madam Flora; her daughter, Monica; and their servant, Toby, as they cheat vulnerable clients through fake séances. During one séance, a hand mysteriously touches Madam Flora’s neck, with the incident leading to insanity and murder.

The two-act production is directed by Mary Kay Bauer, with musical direction by Bradley Martin, both faculty members in the WCU School of Music. The cast includes WCU music faculty member Kristen Hedberg and WCU students Brandi Moon, Chris Corbin, Lauren Smith and Corinne Minor. WCU students Alex Wooten, Marilyn Bledsoe and Robert Helma will provide technical support, with additional technical support provided by Steven Lloyd, HART artistic director.
