Self-defense class for women set for Tuesday

Topics to be covered during the class include violence awareness and survival, unarmed self-defense tactics and strategies, and common weapons for self-defense. Participants should wear casual clothing and avoid dresses, skirts, high heels, flip-flops and loose articles of clothing or jewelry. Jeans, sweatpants or workout clothes are recommended and participants are encouraged to wear socks.
Designed for women of all ages, the class will include demonstrations of defensive physical techniques and classmates will practice with each other, but care will be taken to avoid excessive force.
According to the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network, every two minutes someone is sexually assaulted in the United States. More than 200,000 people are victims of sexual assaults annually.
The cost is $25 per person. If a participant brings a friend, she can attend the class for $15.
