Western Carolina University has been recognized by Military Advanced Education magazine with a listing in the publication’s 2013 “Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities.”
The guide was published in the magazine’s December 2012 issue. Listed schools were evaluated in areas such as flexibility of online learning options, acceptance of transfer credits, on-campus assistance, and support provided to families of service members.
WCU’s Military Student Services office is part of the university’s Division of Educational Outreach and is located in the Cordelia Camp Building. “The Military Student Services office operates as an advocate, addressing the unique needs of incoming and current military students by counseling them during the application process, directing them to available educational benefits and referring them to helpful university services during their time here,” said Lisa Winders, WCU’s director of military student services.
“Another important aspect of our outreach is to strengthen ties with the military installations in our region,” Winders said. “We are constantly striving to improve our qualifications as a military-friendly, military-focused university.”
