‘Shorty Hawkins Play’ set for Friday-Saturday

“The Shorty Hawkins Play” will stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, in the studio theater of Western Carolina University’s John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center.

The play, by rising playwright Nate Eppler, is a companion piece to Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” and will be presented by the student organization University Players. It tells the story of Shorty Hawkins, a simple man trying to make sense of his life and its challenges in Grover’s Corner. He must come to grips with his dreams and reality when a young friend upsets the careful balance and rhythm of his life.
