Western Carolina University’s Office of Continuing Education will offer a pharmacy technician course beginning Tuesday, Oct. 23, and continuing through Thursday, Dec. 13.

Classes will meet in WCU’s Cordelia Camp Building from 6 to 9:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday. Cost of the 50-hour program is $999, including materials.

Completing the course will allow students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. Course content will include pharmaceutical terminology, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names.

Pharmacy technicians are employed in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings where they work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

The course is being offered through Condensed Curriculum International Inc., which partners with colleges and universities in providing allied health programs nationwide.
