Youth and adult swim classes will be offered in late October by Western Carolina University’s Office of Continuing Education.

Classes will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday over a two-week period – Oct. 22-24 and 29-31. Youth classes are scheduled for 6:25 to 7:15 p.m. and adult classes will be held from 7:25 to 8:15 p.m.

The youth class will help young swimmers develop skills such as holding their breath underwater, rhythmic breathing, floating and gliding. Children under age 5 are required to have a parent or guardian with them during class.

The adult class is designed to introduce non-swimmers to the sport and to improve the technique of those who do not swim well.

The instructor for the classes, Mike Creason, is a retired faculty member from WCU’s Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He has 34 years of experience in teaching swimming to individuals of all ages and is certified by the American Red Cross.

The cost of each program is $59. More information and registration is available at Continuing and Professional Education or by calling 828-227-7397.
