Work to affect police telephone lines Thursday
This article features an event that occurred in the past.
Maintenance work in the offices of Western Carolina University’s Police Department will affect the office’s telephone lines on the morning of Thursday, July 12, and may affect the lines again later the same day, but backup telephone numbers will be available for anyone needing emergency services.
The lines will be down beginning at 7 a.m. for a period of 20 to 30 minutes, said WCU Police Chief Ernie Hudson. During that period, emergency services can be summoned by calling 828-293-1841 or by dialing 911 to reach Jackson County Emergency Communications, which will transfer a call back to campus. Police will send out a notification to campus when the regular telephone lines are back in operation, Hudson said.
At 7 p.m. the same day, more work being done in the offices may affect the department’s lines for about 10 minutes and the same backup numbers will be available for anyone in an emergency situation, he said.
