The Mountain Winds Community Band, based out of Western Carolina University, will present a concert of patriotic tunes at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, in downtown Sylva.

The free performance will take place at Bridge Park and will include a presentation of the colors by the American Legion.

Those attending should bring blankets or chairs. The performance will be followed by Jackson County’s fireworks display, which will be shot off from near Dillsboro at nightfall.

The band, composed of adult musicians who live in the area, was formed in spring 2011 by staff members from WCU’s Pride of the Mountains Marching Band.

For more information about the concert, call WCU’s School of Music at 828-227-7242.
