Western Carolina University’s School of Music will present the university’s Low Tech Ensemble in a concert of Javanese gamelan music at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the recital hall of the Coulter Building.
The free program will include traditional compositions played on an iron slendro gamelan. A gamelan is not a single instrument but an ensemble of mostly bronze or iron percussion instruments. Javanese gamelan music is traditionally used for entertainment and to accompany puppet plays, dances and commemorative events.
