Western Carolina University professor Eleanor Hilty edited two recently published books about the foundations of education and teacher education.
Hilty, associate professor of educational leadership and foundations, edited “Thinking About Schools: A Foundations of Education Reader,” which was published by Westview Press. The book examines issues concerning the purpose of education, curriculum content, the roles and responsibilities of students and teachers, and new directions for education in the 21st century.
Meanwhile in “Teacher Leadership: The ‘New’ Foundations of Teacher Education: A Reader,” Hilty edits a collection of writing that offers a definitive overview of the scholarship and writing being done in the field of teacher leadership.
Several of the contributing writers to the teacher education book come from WCU’s Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations. Ann S. Allen, associate professor, and Kathleen Topolka-Jorissen, assistant professor, co-authored “Teacher Leadership Continuum: How Principals Develop and Support Teacher Leaders.” Also, Professor Mary Jean Ronan Herzog worked with WCU alumna Emily Brumley on “Inch by Inch, Row by Row: Growing Capacity for Teacher Leadership.”
