Western Carolina University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts will host the 2011 Theatre Summer Camp for children and teens from July 11-15.
Children and teens will have an opportunity to foster their inner actors, with the assistance of professional instructors, at the 2011 Theatre Summer Camp hosted by Western Carolina University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts.
The camp will run July 11-15 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for 7- to 12-year-olds and from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. for 13- to 17-year-olds.
The camp, led by actors from Asheville-based Bright Star Children’s Theatre, will feature games, improvisation, stage direction, discussions and more in the hopes of igniting creativity and instilling a passion for live theater in the minds of its young participants. The weeklong efforts of the kids and instructors will culminate with a live performance scheduled for Friday, July 15, at 6 p.m. in the Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Registration begins Monday, April 4, and ends Friday, July 8. Space is limited, as only 30 students will be admitted this year. No prior acting experience is necessary, although children with a theater background are encouraged to attend as well.
The cost is $100 per child, with additional children from the same family requiring a fee of $80 each for the week. Payment, by cash or check, is due on the first day of camp. Campers are responsible for bringing their own lunches and beverages.
