The School of Music’s choral ensembles will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Monday, March 1, in the recital hall of the Coulter Building on the campus of Western Carolina University.

The event is free and open to the public.

The 55-voice University Chorus is conducted by Robert A. Holquist, professor of music and director of choral activities, with accompaniment by Carmen Ramsey. Its repertoire includes “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” “The Voice” by Brendan Graham and “A Gershwin Swing Set” by George and Ira Gershwin.

The Concert Choir, 42 voices, is conducted by Holquist and accompanied by Abigail Roper. Its repertoire includes the Appalachian folk song “Bright Morning Stars,” a mountain tune called “Weep, O Willow” and the spiritual “Ride On, King Jesus.”

The Catamount Chamber Singers (14 singers) and Electric Soul Instrumental Ensemble (10 instrumentalists), conducted respectively by Bruce F. Frazier, Belk Distinguished Professor of Commercial and Electronic Music, and Jon Henson, assistant director of the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, also will perform. That repertoire includes “Shining Star,” “Keep Holding On,” “Already Gone,” “Rehab” and “Jump.”
