North Carolina FIRST Lego League to hold regional tournament at WCU on Jan. 23

A North Carolina FIRST Lego League regional tournament will be held at Ramsey Regional Activity Center at Western Carolina University on Saturday, Jan. 23. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public.

In the tournament, hosted by the GEAR UP Program of Southwestern Community College, teams of 9- to 14-year-old students solve an engineering problem using Lego Mindstorms robotics equipment and technology. The event combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere.

Qualifiers from regional tournaments will advance to state competition, which will be held Feb. 20 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The state finalist will advance to international competition to be held in Atlanta in April.
