U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler to visit campus Nov. 12

U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler will visit Western Carolina University for a dialogue with students at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the theater of A.K. Hinds University Center.

Shuler is coming to the WCU campus at the invitation of the College Democrats, a student-led organization located in the department of political science and public affairs.

Getting speakers to campus is a primary goal of the organization, said Trevor Robinson, president of the College Democrats. “Given the number of issues on the national agenda, it will be great to hear from our representative in Congress,” Robinson said.

Among the event organizers is Katy Elders, secretary of the College Democrats who is currently interning in Shuler’s district office in Asheville. “The internship experience has been very enlightening, and I look forward to hearing from Congressman Shuler on the WCU campus,” said Elders, a native of Jackson County.

The event is free and open to WCU students, faculty and staff. For more information, contact Elders at (828) 227-2086 or via e-mail at klelders1@catamount.wcu.edu.
