The Great Life Series at WCU to offer ‘Getting a Good Night’s Sleep’

The Great Life Series, a collaboration between Western Carolina University and Pardee Hospital, will offer “Getting a Good Night’s Sleep: Understanding the Risk of Sleep Apnea” from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Tuesday, May 12.

The workshop will take place in the Jamison Conference Room at Pardee Hospital, 800 N. Justice St. in Hendersonville.

Dr. Gail Clary a Carolina Lung and Sleep Physicians partner who holds board certification in sleep medicine, internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine and WCU’s regional director of educational outreach, Marcia Caserio, will share strategies for getting a good night’s sleep.

Sleep apnea is a common and underdiagnosed cause of poor sleep in aging adults. Clary will explain the risk factors and symptoms of the condition and how it is diagnosed and treated.

Caserio will discuss normal sleep and changes that aging may trigger, highlighting common sleeping problems and offering tips for getting a better night’s sleep.

Participants will have an opportunity to visit Pardee Hospital’s sleep lab.

The cost of the workshop is $22.

The Great Life Series is sponsored by First Citizens Bank; the Penny Insurance Agency; Chef Starr Food to Go; Van Winkle Law Firm; Dixon Hughes Certified Public Accountants and Advisers; Dixon Hughes Wealth Advisers; and Alan L.
