Western Carolina University will offer “Catamount Adventure Camps” for students in grades six through nine this summer, with activities including kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking and rock climbing.
Two separate camps for rising sixth- and seventh-grade boys and for rising sixth- and seventh-grade girls will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 27-31. A camp for rising eighth- and ninth-grade boys and girls will be held Monday through Friday, Aug. 3-7.
“We look for teachable moments geared toward developing leadership skills, community-building skills and how to be a good citizen in a group of others in working together to accomplish a task,” said Josh Whitmore, director of outdoor programs for Base Camp Cullowhee at WCU.
Jennifer Wright, assistant director of outdoor programs, will lead participants in group activities to build both confidence and skill.
The cost of the camp is $199 per person.
